Your first step

Never trained before? You're in the right place.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling martial art that teaches you to use positioning, balance and technique to control movement. You don't need to be strong, flexible or fit before you begin.

At Pure Grappling, beginners learn in manageable steps, with attention to the details that make each technique work. Our approach connects standing movement, ground control and safe partner practice.

Intro to Jiu-Jitsu

Every Monday · 17:00–18:00

Designed for first-time students. Your first Intro class is free; please book in advance so we can prepare for your visit.

The coaching approach

Learn technique, not just movements.

Head instructor Ryan Cheng is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo black belt. His teaching emphasizes fundamental principles, body mechanics, clear explanations and adjustments suited to each student. Beginners are encouraged to understand why a technique works—not simply memorize a sequence.

What students say about learning with us

Excerpts from authentic student testimonials.

Samuel, Pure Grappling student
“When teaching BJJ, Ryan’s concern is not about how good you are but how good you enjoy the fun of interacting in sparring. ... So, the pressure of sparring disappears and you just enjoy the process.”
Samuel Yiu
Derek Smith, Pure Grappling student
“I love BJJ because it is great exercise, a fun sport, and a useful skill. It makes me feel calm and confident in my everyday life. Also, the people you meet through BJJ are really nice and friendly.”
Derek Smith · Texas, United States
Joanna, Pure Grappling student
“Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is an effective exercise and it can be helpful when you need to do some self-defense. We always try to use the soft way against the hard attack, and we only use our skill to get the position, not the brute force.”
Joanna
