Practice Philosophy

Our Approach

At Tao Yoga, we see each posture and sequence as part of a broader practice — a way to develop greater awareness of how we move, breathe, and respond.

Our yoga teaching emphasizes clear alignment, body awareness, breath, and movement quality. We encourage students to understand how they move, rather than simply trying to reproduce a shape.

Our wider practice is also influenced by traditional Chinese movement practices, where posture, breathing, and mental state are cultivated together. This perspective informs the way we teach yoga, Qigong, and other body practices.

Different classes may place the emphasis in different places, but we approach yoga as a complete practice. Alignment, breath, movement, and awareness are not treated as separate elements.

The aim is to develop a more attentive and integrated practice that can deepen and evolve over time.

What We Offer

Practices that support strong foundations, body awareness, breath, movement quality, and a deeper understanding of the body.

Gentle Hatha-based flow yoga class at Tao Yoga Chiang Mai

Gentle Alignment & Flow

温和正位流瑜伽

A gentle Hatha-based flow bringing together breath-led movement, alignment principles, supported postures, and longer holds. Even when poses are held for longer, the practice maintains a continuous relationship between one movement and the next, creating a slower and more spacious flow.

The class gradually opens the body, develops stability and awareness, and then settles toward a quieter close.

Alignment Yoga using chairs and props at Tao Yoga Chiang Mai

Alignment Yoga

正位瑜伽

A structured yoga practice with an emphasis on alignment, body awareness, breath, and movement quality. Classes may include longer holds, repetition, and the use of props such as blocks, straps, and chairs to explore selected postures in greater depth.

While parts of the class may focus more closely on individual postures and alignment principles, the practice still follows a complete arc from opening to closing, with breath and movement woven throughout.

Alignment is used as a tool to support awareness, stability, and ease, rather than as an end in itself.

Qigong

中式功法

A traditional Chinese movement practice combining posture, breathing, coordination, and attention. Classes explore how movement, breath, and mental state influence one another, with an emphasis on whole-body organization, ease, and internal awareness.

Strong Foundations

Beginners & Experienced Practitioners

Beginners and experienced practitioners are welcome. Our classes focus on the foundations of yoga — alignment, breath, body awareness, stability, and quality of movement — rather than advanced poses or high-intensity practice.

Gentle Alignment & Flow offers a slower, breath-led flow, while Alignment Yoga gives more time to explore postures, props, and alignment in greater depth.

If you’re unsure which class to choose, feel free to contact us before your visit.

Beyond the Mat

Community, Workshops & Tea Gatherings

Beyond regular classes, Tao Yoga occasionally hosts workshops, Tea Gatherings, and community activities that create space for learning, conversation, and shared experience.

We see practice as something that extends beyond the mat and into everyday life. Alongside steady and attentive practice, we also value curiosity, creativity, connection, and the ability to enjoy the present moment. As lovers of Chinese tea, we see tea as a simple way to slow down, connect, and bring practice into everyday life.
